Ipomoea Tricolor (Heavenly Blue)
200 untreated seeds
High Quality
Morning glory is a classical favorite for gardeners. This easy-to-grow flowering vine produces captivating, trumpet-shaped, sapphire blue flowers with white throats. Climbing as high as 15 feet, this abundant bloomer is perfect for decorating mailboxes, fences, trellis and handrails. Individual blooms can be as large as 5 inches, opening in the day and closing up as the sun starts to set. The plants produce numerous seed pods each containing four seeds, which should easily allow the plant to reseed itself for the following season. The seeds also have a historical significance in that they were used by Native Americans, most notably the Aztecs who called the plant “tlitliltzin," for divination.
Growing Instructions
While some instructions recommend soaking the seeds, this is not necessary. Simply plant the seeds 1/4”deep, preferably in a fertile, sandy soil. Be sure to keep the soil from drying out. Plants may be started indoors in pots, but it is easier to sow directly outside. This can be done in the fall or spring. The plants should easily reseed themselves after the first year. For perfect blooms, make sure the plants are in full sun. They must also have something to climb. Fertilization is not necessary if the soil is fertile to start with.
